In mice, vaccine stops urinary tract infections linked to catheters

The most common type of hospital-associated infection may be preventable with a vaccine, new research in mice suggests. The experimental vaccine, created by School of Medicine researchers, prevented urinary tract infections associated with catheters, the tubes that drain the bladder.

Gulf oil spill advisory group, led by Schaal, releases report, five-year plan

The National Academy of Sciences released a report last week from an advisory group on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history. Barbara A. Schaal, PhD, dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences, led the advisory group that worked to create a strategic vision and guide for the Gulf Research Program.

Rohina Malik brings ‘Unveiled’ to Edison

It can be plain or embroidered, a bold statement or a humble custom. In “Unveiled,” Chicago-based playwright Rohina Malik explores the significance of the traditional Muslim hijab through the lives of five contemporary women who choose to wear it. Part of the Edison Ovations Series, her show is at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

University helps neighbors ‘rock the block’

Resident Ruth Groff pets Boo at a pop-up dog park constructed by university staff and student volunteers this month for “Rock The Block: A Skinker DeBaliviere Better Block Project.” The event encouraged residents to reimagine their neighborhood through temporary installations such as the dog park and other community activities.
